Frequently Asked Questions.
- What can I expect at the first session?
The initial intake is 60 mins and I will meet with the parents, individual, or family to obtain a full background of family history and the issues presenting. We will go over the intake forms and any questions/concerns you may have. If services for a child are being provided, the initial intake is usually just with the parent/parents.
- What is the usual duration of treatment?
Generally speaking, therapy is commitment. For the best results, a consistent schedule is important for a strong relationship to develop and your child to feel safe to fully express himself/herself. It is difficult to estimate the duration of treatment until I have met you and/or your family and have had the opportunity to assess how your child is functioning emotionally, developmentally, physically, and psychologically. Treatment can last for several months or longer, depending on the severity of symptoms, techniques he/she is most responsive to, and unique functioning of the individual or family.
- Do you work only with my child or do am I involved in treatment as well?
My treatment is integrative and tailored to your family’s specific needs. Sometimes the child does best independently of his/her parents in individual therapy. Other times the need may present for the caretakers or family to join in family sessions. If this is the case, we will meet and discuss the shift in treatment and decide on what works best for everyone.
- Do you take insurance?
I am an out of network provider, which means that payment is due at the time of service and I will provide you with monthly invoices to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Due to the fact that I provide specialized services, it is important to check with your insurance about the reimbursement amount, as typically these specializations are covered more.
